The Valleys and Vistas area has a vast array of Winter Outdoor Adventure opportunities. As the landscape is transformed by a blanket of powdery white snow and a sense of peacefulness and tranquility descends, the land is "reborn" with winter outdoor enthusiasts engaging in a variety of pursuits. From cross-country and downhill skiing, snowboarding, snowtubing, snowmobiling, ice-skating and ice-fishing, we've got you covered.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING:

Groomed trails of varying difficulty exist throughout the region.  These include: Minnedosa Golf Course, Squirrel Hills Trail and Spruce Woods Provincial Park.

DOWNHILL SKIING:

For those looking for a little more speed, Ski Valley  (located 5 minutes north of Minnedosa) offers 9 runs for downhill skiing and snow boarding.  With a chair lift and rentals and lessons available, this is a great way to put a smile on the face of everyone in your family.

SNOWMOBILING:

The Valleys and Vistas area is well-known by snowmobilers from across the region as a great place to ride.  With over 130 km of developed trails and plans for more, our beautifully groomed trails are truly a rider's paradise.  The Valley Rider Snow Club in Minnedosa and the Prairie Mountain Snowdrifters in Neepawa, along with other avid riders and non club members in the area celebrate each powdery snowfall.

The Trans-Canada Trail from Neepawa northwest through Clanwilliam and continuing westward is open to snowmobile traffic during the winter months.  Service stations and restaurants are available throughout the area.  Trail maps are available at local service stations and motels.

There are also various snowmobile "poker derbies" held throughout the region.  For details, check our local newspapers.

ICE-FISHING:

The allur of ice-fishing is difficult for some to comprehend, but for those "hooked" on fishing, it can offer some of the best fishing of the year.  As soon as the ice is thick enough, area lakes become dotted with tiny fishing shacks, becoming true ice-villages, where fishing enthusiasts drop their lines and create fish stories about "the one that was so big, it couldn't fit through the hole!"

For the most-dedicated, it's never too cold to suit up, grab the gear and head out onto the ice - especially with a warm stove and the other amenties of  a well-furnished shack at hand.  And if it's not too cold to spend the day fishing, then it's likely not too cold to fry up some of the best fish you've ever tasted by an open fire.

Or, if you prefer a quieter time, take a walk through fresh-fallen snow and listen to the song birds and the sounds of the animals as they scamper about trying to stay busy and warm.

When you visit our communities in the winter, you will find vibrant, active communities.  For many, winter activities are indoors (either at the hockey or curling rink), where the young dream and the young-at-heart relive their glory days.  These rinks function as our community meeting places, here people make friendships and renew acquaintances over a famous "rink burger."  The streetlights of our business districts are an inviting backdrop to outdoor pursuits.  Take a stroll and check out the seasonal window displays.

So whether it's a Sunday drive from Brandon or a weekend getaway to spend time with family and friends, come and discover all that the Valleys and Vistas area has to offer this winter.
